Notes :

1. All bookings are on whole yachts with parents and are skippered by the Getaway Sailing crew

2. Breakfast and lunches are onboard the yacht, dinners are onshore at local restaurants

This 'safari on water' is relaxing and hands-off as a Mum or Dad. The main reason is that this is very accessible, safe, and well organised, with each day designed for families with teenagers so there is a mix of onboard and onshore experiences across the holiday. At no stage will you be wondering where to take the kids.

There is traditional holiday time to sit, read, sleep and do nothing, deck space to lay in the sun, a bimini (canopy) to shade from the sun, marvellous coves where we drop anchor and swim, moments for spotting dolphins and turtles, and the town of Korcula with narrow lanes and 'old buildings' to explore and soft cultural experiences surrounding food & wine.

As your Host, Susan or Tony is overseeing every aspect of the trip every day, and every yacht has its own dedicated Skipper who is your personal guide and sherpa to make your life easy.

Day by Day Itinerary

We have handpicked a unique sailing route leaving from Dubrovnik for you to enjoy. We will visit a new island every day, all to explore within a one week period. Every single day is completely different and you can experience a new holiday in this way because you will be arriving at a different port with new breathtaking scenery and surroundings.

With our activity packed holidays, there is something for the whole family to be entertained. Our highlights include swimming in a cave, viewing the sealife, cycling through Mljet National Park with it's rare wildlife and beautiful panoramic views, white sandy beaches to sunbathe, our unique speedboat trip followed by dinner away from the tourist trail up in the mountains and Regatta Day. This is an away from the tourist trail family tour of Croatia.

Set Sail Saturday afternoon and take a dip before dinner. We will host an evening dinner for all guests and crew at a specially chosen restaurant - quaint and atmospheric at the heart of the Elafiti Islands where tonnes of olives descended from the hills to be pressed into high quality olive oil.

Take a look inside at the 300 year-old olive press that was powered by donkeys. Sit back and relax, enjoying your first night in the Islands and the ambience.

Learn to Sail part 1 as we are en route to a natural cave referred to as Ulysses Cave. You can swim inside this one and for the more adventurous climb the stairs and jump from the rocks into the crystal clear waters with your Go Pro or have Mum and Dad take a video from the boat. After lunch onboard we continue to Pomena which is our harbour for the evening, but not before learning about anchoring and enjoying another swim at a place we call the Blue Lagoon - you'll see why! Once the yachts are moored at the waterfront, take the time to explore the village and wander because tomorrow you will have time to visit the National Park, once the tourist boats and motor cruises have all left the area, and you have a more peaceful experience.

Morning: Visit Mljet National Park from Pomena before setting sail. There are pleasant cycle and walking paths to spectacular panoramic views, and let the current in the channel push you between the two lakes. Once back at the yachts, prepare to depart for the Island of Korcula, a walled medieval city where you can get lost in the tiny alleys and streets. Learn to Sail Part 2 will get you more involved in the sails, tacking and having the time to understand the physics behind them.

We sail into Korcula Old Town Marina in the afternoon where you get to explore and wander this fortressed medieval city. This location is perfect for families where you decide everything for the night. Of course our Tour Manager and Crew will be on tap if you need any help or suggestions. Relax with refreshments, listen to live music by the waterfront and enjoy your dinner.

Bike boy

This morning it's sailing fun in the Korcula channel for Learn to Sail Part 3 before arriving at Lumbarda. There is the evening option to join our Speedboat and dinner on the Peljesac Peninsula (Croatia's premier wine region).

Get dropped off by speedboat at the waterfront winery for a winery experience learning about the different grapes, soils and geography that results in the grape vines in this area fighting against nature and the odds to burrow their roots deep into the stony hillside to extract every bit of moisture from the soil. That combined with the eternal sun and reflections and salt off the sea creates the perfect environment for these award winning wines. The winery is followed by dinner high up in the mountains with spectacular views across the Islands we've sailed. Return by speedboat to the marina after dinner.

Vedrans crew

Wake to a morning swim at the beach a short walk from the yachts. There is an Aquapark and Beach Club here in Lumbarda and there is time for other activities like stand-up paddleboarding, wind surfing or kayaking in the nearby bay. If adrenalin is what you're after, take one of the jet skis into the open water. There are so many activities, you will be spoiled for choice. Learn to Sail Part 4 is onboard your yacht en route to Polace - a very large protected bay with picturesque shallows for swimming, surrounded by pine trees.

On arrival, walk through the breathtaking scenery this part of the National Park has to offer or snorkel searching for ancient amforas on the sea floor. You can also hire kayaks here or take a short ferry ride to the Island with a stunning 12th Century Monastery situated in the middle of the lake. This is now a restaurant and cafe that is a real piece of history.

Dinner is a wood-fired dining experience consisting of family friendly dishes to tempt your appetite after a day of fun activities.

Today we race the yachts in our Regatta from Polace to Sipanska Luka. This bay is famous for its sunsets and offers lots of relaxing refreshment locations by the sea.

This is a late start day, with a relaxing sail to another picturesque bay for swimming before a slow sail back to the Marina in the afternoon.

It is rare to say that something has exceeded expectation, but this week aboard our yacht has :) An amazing time spent with my family with teenager, a wonderful skipper and on top of all this we met some fantastic new people who are now friends. Tony matched the three boats perfectly and our daily /evening activities were superb. Our skipper was an important part of the team - great fun and big brother to our daughter. I look forward to sailing again with Getaway Sailing. "

Sheena, Peter and Isabel - Dublin, Ireland

Our first family sailing holiday - and loved it! Croatia's coastline and seaside villages more beautiful than I imagined. Loved the mix of sailing, swimming, island villages and seafood : ) All enhanced by great organisation and our ever capable skipper that involved our teenage son in the yacht to no end! Amazing Skipper, fantastic sailing, beautiful blue water and blue lagoons (secluded bays), fantastic food, great organisation by Tony and team, wonderful weather, and relaxation/sailing. "

What to expect Island hopping in Croatia

Croatia is an island paradise perfect for Island hopping with short sailing distances between the harbours and Islands. The waters are as you see in pictures - crystal clear and great for a summer holiday of swimming, snorkelling and exploring.

Sailing Area

Of the two main sailing areas in Croatia (Dubrovnik and Split) for families we recommend sailing in the Dubrovnik area because of its:

- sandy beaches

- Mljet National Park

- onshore family activities such as kayaking, cycling, stand up paddle boarding and

- the Island of Korcula which is a very family friendly location

The main things to be aware of if sailing in the Split area especially in July and August is that the marinas are noisy with loud music, lots of drinking and less time for sailing, swimming and enjoying the yacht during the day, because of the urgency to 'arrive early' to ‘park the boat’ before the party yachts arrive.

Charter Period

All yachts are chartered from 5pm on Saturday to 8am the following Saturday.

The Yachts Onboard Features and Equipment

All boats come fully equipped with a kitchen complete with refrigerator, stove, tea/coffee facilities, hot water showers, deck shower, all safety and navigation equipment, radio/CD, swimming ladder, fully equipped chart table and cabins and a Bimini which is the removable canopy for shade over the cockpit area at the back of the yacht where the steering wheel and outdoor table and seating is.

Yacht Size and Model

The yacht model we recommend will depend on how many guests you are and how much internal space you'd like. For example, for a family of 4 with skipper we recommend a 3 x double cabin yacht. For a family of 5 we would recommend a 4 x double cabin yacht unless you are happy for one teenager to use the saloon (lounge area that converts to a bed each evening) in which case you could still sail onboard a 3 x double cabin yacht to keep the cost down.

All prices are in Euros and include everything you need to consider for a fun family island hopping holiday including all Croatian tourist taxes, bed linen, shower towels, end cleaning of the yacht, transit log (registering your passport details with the Port Authority) and dinghy and outboard (small second boat with engine for driving into beaches at lunch times).

We offer two types of discounts:

1. First Family Discount: EUR 500.00 from the total for the first Family with Teens Booking for each start date. The family receives a EUR 500.00 discount from the total after the early booking discount (below). You usually need to be booking for the following year's trip.

2. Early Booking Discount: EUR 100.00 - 700.00 from the total up until the 31st of January of the same Flotilla Year. The final amount depends on availability and your booking date.

Additional Costs

1. You should allow Croatian Kuna 800 per person per week (families of 3-4) to cover the yacht and skipper running costs for the trip (such as mooring and marina fees, diesel top-up at the end of the week similar to renting a car). For family groups of 5-8 people the running costs will be around Croatian Kuna 600 per person per week.
Optional Extras
1. Speedboat/Winery/Dinner up in the mountains trip - return speedboat, dinner up in the mountains away from the tourist trail, winery tour and tasting and all transport. Croatian Kuna 350 per person. There is an optional Croatian Kuna 100 for parents and older teens for wine tasting.

Payment Terms

- 30% deposit upon booking
- 20% instalment by 31st January
- Balance is due one calendar month before the start date
We offer payment in different currencies (EUR, GBP, AUD, DKK, NOK, SEK) to help you avoid or minimise international payment charges from your bank if paying to one of our local accounts.
We are the Operator
Getaway Sailing is the sailing holiday operator with our own offices and team in Croatia and not just an international booking or placement agent.
Interested to know more about our logo? The silhouette of Poseidon/Zeus represents the importance of nature (wind for the sails) good food, and the ‘local-ness’ in our itineraries. You’ll see the extent of our support for the local Island economies.

Information to help search for flights:
Start/End Location: Dubrovnik
Closest Airport: Dubrovnik International (there is only one and it is 25-30 mins by taxi to the marina)
Closest Ferry Port: Dubrovnik, Gruz for ferries within Croatia and from/to Italy (Bari)
Check-in: 3.30pm Saturday OR Sunday morning if this increases your flight options
Check-out: 8am Saturday (Early departure is possible since the yachts return to Dubrovnik Marina on Friday afternoon by 4pm. You have free overnight stay onboard that evening).

Visiting Dubrovnik Old Town: If it helps avoid the cost of onshore accommodation, the last night of our trip (Friday night) can be used to visit Dubrovnik Old Town because we return to the marina which is only 15 mins by bus or taxi to the Old Town. Many guests visit Dubrovnik Old Town this evening and return to the yacht to sleep before checkout the next morning.

Note: Airlines are using cookies to recognise when you return to their website, which can artificially inflate the price of flights each time you return. If possible, try to research from one computer/phone but make the booking from a different device. Many guests have successfully booked the same flights cheaper by doing this.

Check-in Times

We now offer two check-in times: for those guests that can arrive on Saturday (preferable so you don't miss the first evening), the check-in time is Saturday 3.30pm in the marina (25 mins from the airport and 15 mins from the Old Town).

For guests unable to arrive on Saturday we offer a second check-in possibility on Sunday that will increase your arrival flight options, and you set sail and meet the flotilla on the 2nd day.

How many Guests are you?

Note: Yachts and catamarans also have a lounge area that converts to a bed suitable for 1 or 2 people.
